Event Film for the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs A conference on gender equality that keeps on working.
“Strengthening Equality”: Under this motto, the Labor Market Equal Opportunity Officers (BCA) gathered at Spielfeld Berlin on January 30 and 31, 2024. The film captures what makes the day special: workshops, discussions, and a mindset that, even in the face of cost pressures, says: We’re moving forward.
Networking requires a place. And a memory.
Equal opportunity officers in the labor market work at job centers across the country, often serving as the sole point of contact for a major issue. The Future Conference at Spielfeld Berlin brought them together in late January 2024: workshops in growing teams, a look back and a look ahead, and specific highlights from their own work.
Our film turns the two-day conference into a lasting record. The participants themselves explain what it’s all about: promoting equality, especially for women with a history of migration or displacement. And how they keep moving forward even with fewer resources: trying things out, seeing if they work, and learning from the experience.
A topic that rarely gets a chance to take center stage
Equality in the labor market is an everyday endeavor: counseling, projects, networks. The film shines a spotlight on this work without romanticizing it. The participants speak openly about cost pressures and increasing workloads, and that’s precisely why their conclusion resonates all the more: Just do it, give it a try, and see if it works. And if it doesn’t, what have we learned from it?
For the organizer, the film accomplishes two things: It honors the people who are the focus of the event. And it shows everyone who is invited to a future edition why the trip is worth it.
“Do it, try it, see if it works, and if it does, great. And if not: What did we learn from it?”
Seen in the film
Participants are traveling in from all over the country, including Maurice Handke, the Equal Opportunity Officer. The conference theme: Strengthening Equality. In workshops, the teams grow from four to eight to sixteen people, focusing on the past, the present, and hopes for the future. The participants share highlights from their work, talk about stepping out of the office and into the neighborhoods, and reflect on a year full of challenges that they face with courage.
