Event Film for the GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies Your awards ceremony lasts one evening. The film keeps working.
At your awards ceremony, important voices should be heard. And those who weren’t in the room should understand what your award stands for. For the GdW, we filmed the Deutscher Bauherrenpreis 2026 ceremony (German Building Owners’ Award) at the EUREF Campus in Berlin. The event film weaves five voices into one narrative, coordinated with the GdW team right up to final approval.
The task: five perspectives, one common thread.
The GdW, the BDA and the Association of German Cities jointly present the Deutscher Bauherrenpreis. Federal Minister Verena Hubertz also speaks in the film. Each voice brings its own perspective: the housing industry, architecture, cities and politics. The film was meant to weave these perspectives into one narrative while honoring the award winners. The result: a 3:35-minute event film that the GdW approved as final on July 21, 2026, after three cuts.
Presented by the GdW Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies, the Association of German Architects BDA and the Association of German Cities, the award has existed since 1986. In 2026, 30 of 176 submitted projects were nominated, and eight received an award or a special prize.

Coordinated right on the footage
On the sidelines of the awards ceremony, we conducted interviews with the minister, the jury, and the association leaders. In our edit, we organized their responses as follows: first, the significance of the award; then, the collaboration among the organizers; next, the projects; and finally, a look ahead.
The GdW team added comments directly in the Vimeo review, including timestamps for the corresponding audio clips and notes on which projects in the footage corresponded to which statements. After three cuts, the film was finalized. This was followed by fine-tuning the color and sound.
Federal Minister Verena Hubertz sums up the idea behind the award in the film:
“It traditionally recognizes good architecture, but combines that with a focus on cost-effectiveness.”
Seen in the film
The film begins at the gasometer on the EUREF campus and with the trophy. Federal Minister Verena Hubertz explains why the award has been significant for 40 years: It combines good architecture with economic efficiency and highlights affordable housing. Prof. Jörn Walter describes what makes it unique: namely, three major institutions that jointly present the award. Axel Gedaschko, Uwe Conradt, and Alexander Poetzsch discuss urban renewal, infill development, and their hopes for the industry. The film also shows the awards ceremony in the auditorium, the winners on stage, and the closing festivities on campus.
