ROCC Film

Commercial for PYUR A new name has to stick in people's minds.

Tele Columbus became PYUR. For the launch of the new brand, we produced an image pool and the brand film together with agency Foundry. The footage we shot held even more: the TV spot that became the most successful campaign of the rebrand.

A rebrand you can see.

Through acquisitions, Tele Columbus had grown into Germany's third-largest high-speed internet provider and rebranded as PYUR in 2017: shops, communications, every touchpoint. Agency Foundry commissioned ROCC Film to produce an image pool for all channels and a roughly two-minute brand film.

After delivery, ROCC saw more in the footage than the brief called for: a 30-second spot. We cut it at our own expense and presented it to the agency and client. Both adopted it enthusiastically. It ran on TV, online, at Uber Arena Berlin, on billboards, and in PYUR stores.

„Our job is to get the biggest production value out of every budget. With PYUR, there was even a whole extra spot hiding in the footage.“

Why we fought for one annoyed glance.

The spot is a vignette spot: small everyday scenes of a family, shot over two days in Berlin in an apartment with a roof terrace and a coworking space. Cast actors, full TV-grade setup with dolly and lighting truck, plus a Sony with Zeiss Ultra Primes and footage shot at up to 120 frames per second: that’s how the look of a much bigger production comes together. Every euro of the budget shows up on screen.

Two moments make the spot special. The slow-motion popcorn throw, where the camera moved on a circular track and the chaos in the living room allowed only three takes. And the daughter's glance, rolling her eyes at the boys. That exact disruptive moment was controversial internally — we fought for it: small imperfections make characters believable. In the end, the client was very happy with it.

Even the stock music with its whistling motif feels like an original composition. And the voice-over artist we booked for the studio later became PYUR's permanent brand voice.

„Small imperfections make characters believable.“

A family in everyday life: father and son cook, the daughter watches the boys with annoyance, popcorn flies in slow motion during movie night. On the rooftop terrace, balloons with wish cards rise into the sky. At the end, the new PYUR logo appears.
