02Commercial spot or brand film?

Short and paid beats long and unseen. Sometimes.

The two formats are constantly confused. Yet the distinction is simple, and it decides your budget.

A commercial spot is built for paid media: 15 to 60 seconds, one thought, one image that sticks. It runs where you buy reach: on TV, in cinemas, in your social ads. Every second costs media budget, so every second has to count.

A brand film tells a longer story and lives on your own channels: website, YouTube, trade shows, sales. If that is what you are looking for, head over to our page on Commercial Production in Berlin in Berlin.

Often both come out of one shoot. For the PYUR rebranding we produced a brand film, and the footage held more than the brief: the 30-second spot that became the most successful campaign of the rebranding. Good planning turns one shooting day into a full campaign package.

PYUR: The TV spot for the rebranding

Tele Columbus became PYUR, and a new name has to stick. The 30-second spot ran on TV, online, on billboards and in the Uber Arena Berlin.

  • Produced with the agency Foundry
  • TV, online, out-of-home and stores from one shoot
  • Most successful campaign of the rebranding

04Reference · Ostrom

Ostrom: 15 seconds with a real customer

Not a model, but Dieter, 70, an e-taxi driver from Berlin. His own words carry the spot: He earns money while his taxi charges. The spot ran on linear TV, and its cutdowns became the winner video of the online campaign.

  • A real customer instead of a casting face
  • 15 seconds for TV, cutdowns for online
  • Winner video of the campaign

8in1: The cinema spot where the dog tells the story

Pet food advertising almost always shows the happy owner. For 8in1 we flipped the perspective: The dog proudly tells how well he has trained his human. One shooting day, a crew of thirty, cinema and TV versions.

  • Cinema and TV campaign for the master brand
  • One shooting day in Berlin, with a parallel photo shoot for the image database
  • Developed directly with the client

Both are everyday business for us: PYUR was created with the agency Foundry, 8in1 directly with the client. You decide how much conceptual work you bring and where we take over.

07Process

How your commercial is made

  1. Kick-off call

    Briefing and idea

You bring brand, goal and media plan. We develop the idea that carries 15 to 60 seconds and calculate transparently with individual line items.

  2. after commissioning

    pre-production

Storyboard, casting, locations, shooting schedule. With animals or stunts we plan the backup right away: The 8in1 shoot had two golden retrievers scheduled so every scene would work.

  3. usually 1 to 2 shooting days

    Shoot

A focused set with everything the spot needs: directing, camera, lighting, make-up. On request, a parallel photo shoot gives you an image database for the campaign.

  4. until broadcast

    Post-production and adaptations

Editing, color grading, sound design, music licensing. The result: broadcast-ready masters for TV and cinema plus all cutdowns for your online channels.

The result was really strong — an event film that perfectly captures the atmosphere and the content. ROCC Film accompanied our training on fire safety measures and fire extinguishers. A wonderfully straightforward collaboration.

09Frequently Asked Questions

What companies want to know before producing a commercial

How much does a TV commercial cost?

At ROCC Film, production starts at 5,000 euros net. Beyond that, the idea and the scope decide: casting, locations, animals, set design, music licensing and the number of adaptations. After the initial call you receive a proposal with transparent line items.

What is the difference between a commercial spot and a brand film?

A commercial spot runs 15 to 60 seconds and is built for paid media: TV, cinema, online ads. A brand film tells a longer story and lives on your own channels such as your website and YouTube. For brand films, see our page on commercial film production in Berlin.

Do you produce broadcast-ready formats for TV and cinema?

Yes. You receive broadcast-ready masters that meet the technical specifications of the TV networks plus the source file for the cinema DCP, along with cutdowns and format adaptations for your online channels.

Do we need an advertising agency for a spot?

Not necessarily. Both ways are everyday business for us: We produced the PYUR spot with the agency Foundry, and we developed the 8in1 cinema spot directly with the client, from the idea to the cinema and TV versions.

Do you only film in Berlin?

No. Our base is Berlin, but we have produced all over Germany. For many spots, Berlin is still the ideal shooting location: short distances, strong locations and well-rehearsed crews.

Can several ad assets come out of one shoot?

Yes, with good planning that is the norm. The PYUR rebranding produced a brand film, a TV spot and an image pool from a single production, and the 8in1 shoot ran a parallel photo shoot for the brand's image database.
