Animated opening film for the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) The first film sets the tone for the whole conference.
About 1,000 guests attended the VDV Annual Conference in Karlsruhe in June 2026. To kick things off, the VDV wanted to set the tone for the conference, recognize the industry’s work, and showcase its updated design. ROCC Film produced an animated opening film for this purpose, just under two minutes long.
The VDV project: an opening film for the 2026 Annual Conference.
The Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) represents around 700 companies in public passenger transport and rail freight. Once a year, the industry comes together for the VDV Annual Conference. The conference is aimed at companies, transport associations, industry, business and politics. In 2026 it met in Karlsruhe under the theme “Accelerating transformation – shaping innovation”.
The conference opened with a film shown in the main hall on a large screen. It was intended to accomplish several things at once: demonstrate what the VDV stands for, showcase the association’s updated design, and set a positive tone for the audience as they began the conference. ROCC Film conceived and produced this opening film. Shown here is the neutral version without the transition to the moderator’s introduction.
How existing animations were turned into a single film.
The film was to reuse many animations from the previous year, featuring buses, trains, rail networks, and people. Each one conveyed its own theme with its own visual style. In addition, the VDV provided clear guidelines: passenger and freight transport were to be given equal prominence, as were rural and urban areas.
The answer was a stage. Together with motion designer Johannes Guerreiro, ROCC Film developed a bright, urban 3D world in which screens appear on the buildings. The existing animations play on these screens, adapted to the VDV’s new corporate design. This gives them a common thematic framework, and the film comes across as a cohesive whole.
We chose this lean approach on purpose: what already existed kept working, and the main new element was the stage that ties everything together. ROCC Film wrote the voice-over script and the VDV sharpened it. Short sentences leave room for the images. The voice-over is AI-generated.
In June 2026, the film opened the conference in Karlsruhe. It pays tribute to what the industry achieves every day and ends by presenting the VDV’s updated design. The project also includes a silent version with subtitles for InnoTrans, an onboarding version for the intranet and a 15-second spot for the Deutsches Mobilitätsforum. In the film, it says:
“We act as one, yet we are diverse.”
Seen in the film.
The film begins in a bright 3D city with a train running through it. Maps of Germany appear on screens between the buildings, along with a network of lines and 24 million passengers a day. An autonomous shuttle stops at a bus stop, a freight train crosses the countryside, and two figures look into a bus through VR headsets. Later, the stage shows historical images, earlier VDV logos and the association’s team. The film ends with the new design and the line “We move the future.”
